What is "telos"
The Greek word telos means "end," "goal," "purpose," or "fulfillment". It is a concept referring to the ultimate purpose or final cause of something, and can also mean "completion" or "outcome"
At Embassy Church, we believe the "telos" of men was defined in the very first chapter of God's Word.
"Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
- Genesis 1:26-28, NKJV
Man was created in the image and likeness of God so that he could subdue the earth and exercise a biblical and patriarchal dominion over it. In today's day and age, men have lost their way; either becoming overbearing and abusive, or effeminate and emasculated. It is the Church's responsibility, then, to not only define and bestow masculinity, but also to restore men to their God given role as loving husbands and fathers who rule according to God's intended design.
This is the Telos Project.
